Zuwaka: in development for over a year
During the past year and a half, we implanted many new features, changed mechanics multiple times as well as gameplay. In short, alot of evolution happened. Our first goal was to make a game that was controlled by the mouse only.
The Puzzle Game
At first, Zuwaka was supposed to be a puzzle project where a little ball would have to make his way through moving obstacles and different wall textures such as sticky and bouncy. Then it rapidly changed to something much more fast paced in order to fit the Yoyogames’ Save The Planet competition.
Zuwaka: a worldwide hero
We wanted to tell everyone what was going to be the consequences of what, we (human) are currently doing with the Earth’s resources. The world would have been devastated by pollution and controlled by machine. Then, Zuwaka, the name of the ball which soon became a bigger and stronger gene mutated frog, a consequence of the human race’s pollution was sent where everything started, years before, to change human’s nature. The rest was not specifically specified yet and since we never continued it, it never has been.
One Step Further
There are the first graphics we made for our project that was supposed to take part of Yoyogames’ Save The Planet competition. We believed in it really hard. However, pixel drawing is time consuming which is one of the main reason why we abandoned this project so early. The tree appearing on that screenshots took approximately 3 or 4 hours to do. It was such a big sprite for pixel art. ahah! Apart from this, animations are very hard to do which would have taken alot more time!
A new graphic artist
One of our Quebec friend, Edouard Mercure decided to join our team as the offical graphic artist. It looked so different and so good! Finally, someone else who believed in the project! His graphics were awesome and soon became much more polished using transparent sprites well known under the name of PNGs. This huge step from pixel art to Edouard’s unique BMP style helped us a lot through the continuation of this project.
